COMPENSATION, ELECTED OFFICIALS - INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. Provides that no increase in the salary or expense of Governor or other constitutional officer, member of the Legislature, or judge of a court of record, shall become operative without approval of majority vote at statewide general election. Similarly subjects increases in salary or expenses of elected officers of city, county, or city and county to majority vote within the local jurisdiction. Provides that on effective date of this section amount of compensation for any of above elected offices shall be amount that it was on January 15, 1975. Financial impact: State costs will be reduced approximately $10 million annually; local costs reduced approximately $6-8 million annually. State and local government costs will grow at slower rate in future.
